Overnight Graffiti (12/30/08) in Haverford (Lower Merion Township)

Despicable Act of Cowardice and Hatred

So what about this incident of hatred? Swastikas painted on the pavement in front of a synagogue in Penn Valley? Are we so accustomed to hatred and vile behavior in our communities that the media did not consider this newsworthy?

Whoever did this is the lowest of the low. It’s not funny. It’s mean, it’s hateful, and it’s sick. This is the worst kind of graffiti. I almost wish this wasn't true and that the report was a mistake, don't you?

Reported 24 Av 5768, August 25, '08 Philadelphia Synagogue Driveway Painted With Swastikas

(IsraelNN.com) Swastikas were discovered painted in motor oil on the driveway of a Conservative Jewish synagogue in suburban Philadelphia on Friday.

The Lower Merion Police Department promised congregants of Beth Am Israel in Penn Valley that they would look into the incident, and would increase patrols near the synagogue, especially during religious services

Ardmore Graffiti Has Got To GO

The Save Ardmore Coalition Graffiti Fighters are interested in helping clean up the graffiti. Please e-mail comments@saveardmorecoalition.org or stop into Suburban Office to see Scott Mahan.

Property owners, there are many folks out there who will help you clean up the graffiti, just reach out. Don't let graffiti take over - it makes the town look awful. And if you see someone "tagging", call the police.

One of our members took some new photographs on Friday:

Things that make you go "Hmmmm" in Lower Merion....

In Ardmore we hear there was a very nice dinner the other night. We also hear that there was some sour grapes going on? After all this time, the more that changes, the more that stays the same?

What's up with that? If we don't sign on 110% to your vision of overly urbanizing Ardmore, we are still the devil incarnate, much as we were when we opposed eminent domain and beat it? Is it still a childish game of whomever gets all the toys wins?

Seriously, silly questions about what is IJ? (But we'll be nice and throw them a bone - www.IJ.org - if you can read you can learn....)

All in all we find it amusing that the same old people are still saying the same old things....snap out of it! You kids in an time warp or something? We LOVE Ardmore! We just don't love the idea of skyscrapers in Ardmore (or in the ROHO zone either). Our members are out and about and involved in the local Ardmore community, as well as the extended Lower Merion community. (If these kids got out more, they'd know all this already, poor kids.)

In Ardmore, What is Blight?

We keep asking "what is blight?"

We keep asking "why is our block still legally blighted?"

Here is a photo of the Pennywise Thrift Shop - does this look blighted to you? It's in the blight zone

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_fj6yC7x35ew/RxTe4_zq3CI/AAAAAAAAADY/1q_W-eVfMuA/s200/pennywise.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121963747009289250" />

What about these random photos to follow of other buildings in downtown Ardmore, NOT in the formerly targeted block? Why are these building so special and not considered to be exhibiting blight? Is blight, as defined in Ardmore, merely subjective? Ok, check out these photos below, just for argument's sake. None of them are considered blighted.

Grafitti Crisis: Looks Like An Alley in Philly....Only It's Ardmore

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_fj6yC7x35ew/RxTY1_zq2_I/AAAAAAAAADA/-u_-cdfltMY/s200/Ardmore+Ave+and+Lancaster+Ave+Graffiti1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121957098399914994" />

Yep, graffiti. Huge ugly swaths of it in Ardmore in Lower Merion Township. Of course, can it be considered that this exhibits the malcontent felt by increasingly disenfranchised segments of the population since Lower Merion seems to be experiencing a graffiti outbreak in more than Ardmore? We aren't sociologists, so we aren't equipped to answer. But we will pose one further question: if the over-urbanization of Ardmore under MUST is the future, and graffiti is considered and urban disease, can we expect more graffiti?
