Student Housing Discussed at Radnor BOC?
|
Well tonight at the Radnor Board of Commissioners a corageous resident of Callanan Avenue in Rosemont (Garrett Hill, correct?) came forward to complain about 3 student residences on their street during public participation. Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which houses --- they are listed on Villanova University's magic list of Off Campus by Municipality/Township : http://www.villanova.edu/studentlife/assets/documents/dean/pdf/StudentApprovedHousing2007-08.pdf And one of the houses can be found on Cabrini's Off Campus Student Housing list: http://www.cabrini.edu/assets/cabrini/ResLife/Off-CampusHousing.pdf And that would be 241 Callanan Ave. ,245 Callanan Ave., and 249 Callanan Ave., right??? And isn't it such a coincidence that it appears the SAMEY SAME slumlord has a bunch of problematic and mayhap even notorious properties in Bryn Mawr in Haverford Twp on Penn Street and maybe even Dayton Road? What are the chances, eh? And isn't it interesting that the Penn Street and Dayton student houses show up on Cabrini's list as being legal (see p. 7 and p. 14 respectively http://www.cabrini.edu/assets/cabrini/ResLife/Off-CampusHousing.pdf ), but not on Villanova's? Why is that? Anyway, what is SO very odd about Radnor is that if you are a law abiding taxpayer and full year resident and you have a problem student rental on your street, you can't just call up the township on the QT like you can in Lower Merion and Haverford Townships...in Radnor you have to swear out an affidavit, which means the folks you are complaining about in Radnor know who it is - isn't that almost like a head's up before the boom is lowered? Wow. How resident UN-friendly, eh? Anyway, it is just interesting to connect some dots between municipalities....too bad they all don't work together, right? The rental housing issues might be less, right? What is the most sad? Student rentals detract from available supplies of affordable housing...and well, in this economy, couldn't Johhny and Susie Q live on campus? After all, families with no place else to go are looking for affordable places...but then again, when these landlords rent to students, it is no great secret they rape the students over rent, making students victims too....sigh, it's no win isn't it?
