So, I found a new blog talking about Ardmore today. I am going to post an excerpt and open the floor for comments.

Conservative Reform Network:Subsidies Suck: Dranoff and Ardmore Development Project

Welfare to the Kings and Queens of Lower Merion?

Lower Merion is one of the richest municipalities in one of the richest counties in the US and Carl Dranoff is one of the most deservedly successful builders and developers in southeast Pennsylvania who has created wealth and value in the free market system (well, almost free market ) and now Lower Merion is getting tax subsidies for economic development? The rich getting richer from tax dollars?

Interesting. Bob Guzzardi is an interesting person. Don't quote me on any of this as fact (if Bob is reading this he can correct me), but as I understand it he made a lot of money in real estate and has retired to be a full time Republican activist who backs local, state office and congressional GOP candidates who meet his political ideology - which is to say not all Republicans.

Again, I may not have this exactly right, but Bob appears to an interesting mix of a paleoconservative from a domestic standpoint (old school Republican, limited government, free markets like Sen. Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan) and a neoconservative on foreign policy (Spread democracy across the world, use force to re-align the Middle East, etc.).

It is a very curious combination as usually a paleo believes in limited government at home and non-intervention abroad while a neocon is all for big government at home and aggressive big government abroad.

I come to these conclusions from reading Bob's website in regards to what he has to say about himself and who he has supported as candidates.

I will say I have to agree with him on the Dranoff project. That should have and easily could have been done with private investment monies the free market way. Under our current system those tax dollars could then have gone to those who are more in need, and under what appears to be Bob's views - rather to lower taxes through reduced government spending and thus increased economic development and better opportunity for all because the people have more money to spend due to lower taxes.

A not so favorable comment on SAC by Bob Guzzardi on his Conservative Reform Blog which is part of his Conservative Reform PAC.

Just posted today by Bob. I have a friend who has similar political views as Bob Guzzardi, but I was copied on an email he sent out to what I believe is a rather large distribution that he was for the Daylin Leach grant to SAC even though he is against such grants in general.

My take is that as long as these grants are available and part of the system, then SAC is a worthy beneficiary.
