May 2008 Newsletter

Hello All!

Hope you are enjoying spring... here is an update on upcoming events and ongoing concerns. SAC looks forward to your community involvement.

Ardmore Development Projects - In addition to Carl Dranoff's Ardmore Transit Center/Ardmore Redevelopment Project, there are numerous other projects on the horizons. 2 proposed multistory residential projects on Cricket Avenue, one on Athens Avenue, Subrban Square's 7 story project on the Ruby's lot are only a few. Ardmore still does not have a master plan nor have the Commissioners stated their vision for Ardmore. Ardmore is one community and without having a town plan, a vision of it in the future, the risk of overdevelopment remains great. Now is the time to express your concern about overdevelopment and the lack of a town plan for Ardmore/ a vision for Ardmore to the Commissioners. How to do that? Write, email or call the Commissioners. Look at the Township's website at http://www.lowermerion.org for contact informatipn.

Memorial Day Parade - Come and march with the Save Ardmore Coalition in Ardmore's Memorial Day Parade! This year children on bikes and scooters are being invited to join the parade procession. Parents with young ones in strollers are welcome to march as well. Bring your family and march with SAC as we join with our community to celebrate Memorial Day. Meet on Greenfield Avenue near the Firehouse at 10 am. If you are planning to attend kindly email so we can get an idea on how many folks will be marching.

June 10th park planning meeting - Come and be involved in the planning of the new park on Linwood and Athens Avenue! Important community planning meeting is scheduled for Tuesday June 10th from 7 - 9 pm at the Lower Merion Township Building on Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore. The meeting will be held in the 2nd floor board room.

Graffiti Fighting - SAC continues to work with the Ardmore Clean Group to combat graffiti in Ardmore. Please send in your graffiti sightings to . We have been contacting owners of the graffitied buildings to offer our services to paint over graffiti and urging them to cover it on their own if they prefer. We can not paint private property without permission of the building owner so frequently we can not paint over the graffiti. The 2 most unsightly walls are the Earlington Men's Club which is covered with numerous graffiti tags and the Mt. Horeb Masonic Lodge which is tagged in the back. WE have spoken to members of these organizations and been assured that the graffiti would be dealt with but to no avail. Our offer to provide free paint and volunteers to paint the walls has not yet been accepted. If anyone has any contacts with these organizations and can contact them to deal with their graffiti problem or to secure our services it would be appreciated.

Crime Prevention/Community Watch - In order to keep our community safe, volunteers are needed to serve with Community Town Watch. If you are interested in helping out contact Ken at

Sincerely,

Sharon Eckstein
President, Save Ardmore Coalition
