First Friday was a HUGE success! The trolleys were PACKED and the dog costume parade the most fun Bryn Mawr has seen since, well, Bryn Mawr Film Institute opened it's doors! The after party at "Blush" in Bryn Mawr was rockin', the martinis and mojito's flowing! Ardmore was aglow, and the Main Line Art Center and Haverford School's Art Gallery were so much fun to visit! And some more businesses in Bryn Mawr left their lights on, giving First Friday patrons a peek at their delicious interiors (especially the new Skirt Location, Stiletto, and State of Grace!)
One odd spot we noticed? Bryn Mawr Trust in Bryn Mawr wasn't a venue this month, and why is that? Bryn Mawr Trust's Bryn Mawr HQ was a First Friday destination. We were told that they were open in Ardmore, and a bunch of our members went to check it out there..BUT...not the same....you see with the Bryn Mawr location the big doors were always open and you could see the music and art at soon as you got off the trolley. We hope Bryn Mawr Trust hears that the largest complaints heard on the trolley (and several SAC members were on and off the trolleys with their entire families last night!)were from people who were disappointed to get off in front of Bryn Mawr Trust only to find the doors locked. A few couples remarked that they banked local at BMT and they hoped BMT reopened to First Friday soon! Here at SAC we don't know why BMT in Bryn Mawr was closed, but we would like to add our voice to the plea for them to reopen because BMT did that lovely party a while back to honor Dr. E Ni Foo when he had the winning art watering can entry! BMT in Bryn Mawr is part of the fabric of Bryn Mawr....they were missed on the First Anniversary of FFML! But we all saw a whole BUNCH of new venues and stores participating!
And speaking of new venues, let's get back to discussing Blush which joined FFML last month?
Have you all been to the gem called Blush in Bryn Mawr? What are you waiting for? it's a sexy jewel box of a restaurant and bar down the street from the Bryn Mawr Firehouse (which should have remembered this business down the street from them last night during their open house) - Blush has a web home at www.dineatblush.com - but please visit them in person at 24 North Merion Avenue in Bryn Mawr.
Why slurp slop at Fellini Cafe in Ardmore just because they made it into Philly Mag's cheap eats section? Save your sheckles and dine at Betty's next door (Hu Nan Restaurant in Ardmore), and take the trip to Bryn Mawr and discover Blush. Blush is so sexy, we think it might become a Main Line hotspot for marriage proposals with it's reddish shot silk covered walls and chandeliers...and fabulous wine list from local wine brokerage, The Wine Merchant Ltd. - and you should always support restaurants that support boutique wine brokerages like that...especially since the Wine Merchant started in Ardmore,PA before they outgrew their space there!
And speaking of Fellini Cafe, they were once again blocking the sidewalk on Lancaster Avenue, forcing patrons of other restaurants and First Friday out onto Lancaster Avenue. It is high time that particular restaurant brings their tables INSIDE. Local merchants told SAC members yesterday that someone should take a flashlight behind Fellini in the dark still of night when everything is closed. Can it be true there is an Ardmore rat condominium? Fellini is so cheap with ugly and dirty palstic table and chairs...why look by comparison at Primavera Pizza Kitchen? They have beautiful and taseful tables and chairs, and flowers! We heard the ABA membership dues were out and wonder: will Fellini pay theirs? Why is it every annual occurance is like a surprise? Why is it they bounced a check to Sherry Tillman and First Friday Main Line way back when? Why is it when we checked recently with the First Friday Diva she seemed like she was still waiting for Fellini to pay up? Who else do they owe? Why are they reportedly charging employees for wine or cheap amaretto they "give" their patrons? Isn't that illegal as per the LCB?
And speaking about what should be illegal - why can't the property owner of the building containing the defunct chiropractor next to Harry's Treasures ( a total treat located at 22 east Lancaster Ave )in Ardmore clean up his building? Is the paint peeling off lead or oil based? It looks like crap right along with the property owner who owns the old All Natural Market building, doesn't it? Why doesn't the township inspector site these property owners? They sure inspect everyone else, don't they? Why should Harry's Treasures have to scrape out an existence in between two buildings suitable for framing in NORTH PHILTHADELPHIA?
Last comment? The Towship has fixed the lit pedestrian cross walks in Bryn Mawr (in front of Bryn Mawr Film Institute) and Ardmore (in front of Philadelphia Sports Club - the workers took their lives in their hands in Ardmore yesterday afternoon, and even with a police car there they should get hazard pay for putting up with those drivers!)...too bad stupid arrogant self important motorists don't know to stop for pedestrians and those spots need enforcement!
Well enough of this...check for updated First Friday photos soon at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mainlineclicks/sets/72157594462467009/
